Family eating a healthy meal

Being healthy and fit can be achieved by making simple changes to your lifestyle

When it comes to getting healthy, there are two big lifestyle changes you’ll need to make. You’ll need to develop routine exercise habits, and changing your diet should follow right behind that. And although everyone’s first thought is to up their exercise (which is highly important), many don’t see the results they’re looking for because they aren’t willing to give up their favorite foods.

But with summer upon us, now is the perfect time for you and your family to get back into shape. And a big part of doing that is cutting back on any unnecessary, unhealthy foods you’ve grown accustomed to.

No one said it would be easy — but with these tasty and healthy swaps, it’ll be a lot simpler to make healthier choices than ever before. Try ‘em out and let us know what you think:

1. Banana ice cream

Forget the fatty cream and added sugars in your frozen dessert. Go for fresh banana ice cream instead! With this cool and sweet summery snack, you’ll be cooled off in no time. All you need to do is freeze a bunch of browning bananas in freezer bags. Once frozen, add them to your food processor and chop them until they are smooth and creamy. Add your favorite flavors, like cocoa powder or fresh strawberries, for a unique treat. Want a burst of protein? Throw a little bit of Greek yogurt into the mix!

2. Veggie noodles

Thanks to the new veggie spiralizer tools, you’re closer than ever to cutting the carbs but still enjoying your favorite Italian meals. If you don’t have a spiralizer, you can use a cheese grater to make long strips of your favorite veggies — but be careful when grating them!

3. Homemade granola

Instead of buying granola bars, make your own from organic oats, local honey, or a pure maple syrup, along with all your favorite toppings like pecans, dried cranberries, or apples. You can limit the amount of sugar and salt while cutting out the preservatives associated with many packaged foods.

4. Homemade hummus dip

Making hummus isn’t as hard as it sounds. With a food processor or a blender, a can of organic chickpeas, fresh lemon, garlic, tahini, and pure olive oil, you’ll have fresh and healthy hummus in no time. This protein-packed treat is both easy to make and extra tasty for dipping veggies or replacing the mayo in sandwiches!

Don’t forget the exercise

Spending some time in the great outdoors with your family is a good way to ensure that your bodies are healthy, inside and out. Whether that means taking the dog for a walk in the park, going for a bike ride, or having some fun while hopping around on a outdoor trampoline, you won’t regret the time you spend exercising together.
