Silicon Valley Band of Angels Backs Trampoline Safety Startup
SARATOGA, Calif.—September 19, 2000—
JumpSport, the trampoline safety company, has established an advisory board to assist with product development and strategic planning. The first meeting was held August 15. The board includes industry, business, and academic leaders, each of whom is committed to supporting JumpSport in its mission of creating and distributing safety-enhanced backyard sports and play products.

Richard Blankenbecler, Ph.D. Physics, Stanford
Assists JumpSport with calculations on design and engineering. He has been a leading contributor to research efforts being conducted at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC).
William Y. Conwell, Vice President of Intellectual Property for Digimarc
Provides IP counsel and was formerly JumpSport's lead IP counsel at the firm of Klarquist Sparkman in Portland. While a partner at Klarquist, Bill was lead counsel for Microsoft.
Ron Froehlich, president, International World Games Association
Brings years of international manufacturing and business experience, plus trampoline industry expertise. As former President of the Fédération Internationale de Trampoline (FIT), based in Switzerland, he oversaw international trampoline competitions and development of the sport.
Jeanette A. Garretty, Senior Vice President, Bank of America-Private Bank.
Provides market research expertise. At Bank of America she was previously senior economist and director of market research and planning.
Ian Hamilton, Sports Marketing Consultant
Provides insight on sports and sports marketing. He previously worked for Nike, managing and negotiating licensing deals with pro athletes. He now runs a successful sports marketing and management consulting business.
Fay Landau, Founder of Parsec Enterprises
Provides strategic marketing expertise. Parsec Enterprises provides strategic marketing and business development consulting services to firms including Cost Plus, AT&T, and others. She was formerly senior vice president of Emporium-Capwell and The Good Guys.
André Lake Mayer
Brings media and film industry connections. She was most recently director of licensing at Lucas Films.
Lee W. Mercer, President of National Assoc. of Small Business Investment Companies
Provides small business expertise. Previous positions include corporate export manager of Digital Equipment Corporation, deputy under secretary of commerce for the Bureau of Export, and deputy under secretary of the Technology Administration. As staff director and counsel for Senator Warren Rudman, he created and wrote legislation establishing more than $1 billion in annual funds for the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program.
Marc J. Rebboah, Founder, Pres. & CEO of Enterprise Trust & Investment Company
Provides investment and fiduciary management expertise. At Enterprise Trust, he manages assets of more than $600 million.
Mary F. Sammons, President and COO of Rite Aid Corp.
Provides retail industry expertise. She is actively involved with the reorganization of Rite Aid, one of the nation's largest drug store chains. Previously, she was president & CEO of Fred Meyer Stores.
James Smith, President of Kiddie World Toys
Provides specialty retailing expertise. Kiddie World Toys is the largest single outdoor play structure dealer in the USA.
Philip L. Smith, Retired Business Leader
Provides business, finance, growth management, and manufacturing industry expertise. He has spent over 30 years in the manufacturing industry holding senior management positions at a number of companies ranging in size from $5 million to $10 billion in annual revenues.
Lawrence J. Udell, (Advisory Board Chairman),
Brings patents, licensing and startup experience. He is a licensing expert and the founder of more than 20 start-ups over the last 40 years. He serves as executive Director of the California Invention Center, The Center for New Venture Alliance, and Intellectual Property International, Ltd. He provides consulting to both Fortune 500 and start-ups, plus speaks at U.S. Patent and Trademark Office events throughout America and for the United Nations worldwide.
Mark S. Young, Coach of the U.S. Gymnastics Team
Brings gymnastics expertise. He has been appointed many times to serve as the U.S. National Gymnastics Coach and was a key behind-the-scenes coach of the 1996 Olympic gold medal gymnastics team. Mark is the lifetime coach of "96 Olympic gold medalist and 2000 U.S. Olympic gymnastics team member and all-around finalist Amy Chow.
